I’m slightly concerned.

Not with Pompey but with a handful of supporters who seem to think we are going to get relegated this season on the basis of one off day.

Yes, we were poor against Chelsea. We were playing a very good side who are unbeaten in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge for well over 4 years and had a new man at the helm with everyone out to impress.

It didn’t help that we assisted them slightly with not our greatest performance on the road but come on, can people seriously begin to even suggest we’re going to get relegated?

I’m hoping it was just a heat of the moment thing as the comments were made on ‘Stick Your Oar In’, our phone-in after the game.

There is absolutely nothing to panic about. If we’re bottom after the reverse fixture against Chelsea at the start of March, then there’s a problem. But right now, we’re one game in and the table hasn’t even begun to shape up yet.

Hull City are heading into the UEFA Cup, Bolton and Blackburn would be delighted with a Champions League berth but Man United not so happy with a disappointing 10th. Do you see what I mean – first games mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.

And let’s be honest about this – we might still be bottom after two games as well with Man United up next. But that’s last season’s Premier and Champions League winners and runners up out the way.

I think we can hold off with the criticism for a while at least don’t you?

As for the Pompey Live team up at Stamford Bridge, we all got our annual exercise after climbing 3,000 steps to get up to the gantry!

Ok, I exaggerate slightly but you wouldn’t believe the climb you have to do to get up to press area. It’s a heck of a journey I can tell you. Especially when you’re carrying all the equipment as well.

I was tempted to give some of our stuff to Mark Mudie to carry because all he had to take were his sunglasses – and he was still physically finished by the time he reached us!

And then, to make matters worse, the roof above our head is like Perspex so the press box becomes a bit of a greenhouse when the sun is shining – which it was pretty much all afternoon in West London!

Still, that said, the view up there is fantastic so it’s worth experiencing what it’s like to climb Mount Etna wearing 58 layers just to get a better commentary position....
