Seafood Fortnight

SEAFOOD FORTNIGHT

The theme for Seafood Fortnight is '2 a week'. During the fortnight, we'll be reminding everyone that seafood is one of the healthiest, most convenient and delicious foods available. It is also versatile and great value for money, quick and easy to prepare and there are literally thousands of recipes to choose from.

Visit www.viviers-uk.com to view their stocklist.

The consumption of seafood provides important sources of protein, vitamins, minerals and omega 3 fatty acids that help lower blood cholesterol levels. Nutrition experts agree we should be eating a minimum of two portions of seafood every week, at least one of which should a good source of omega 3, such as mackerel, herring or sardines. And there's great news for shellfish fans - we've collected new data showing that various species of shellfish are also valuable sources of omega 3 polyunsaturates. Oysters and crab are 'rich' sources, and mussels, squid, cold water prawns and lobster are all ‘good’ sources. Find out more about portion sizes, and how to get your '2 a week'. We also have some tips for feeding the whole family.

The sheer variety of species of seafood is often something which surprises people. There are around 21,000 species of fish and shellfish in the world and around 100 different varieties available to us in the UK – the choice is almost endless and certainly inspiring.

In time for this year's Seafood Fortnight, we've set up a '2 a week' label which will be used on pack by retailers to remind everyone how easy it is to get '2 a week'. (Businesses looking to use these labels can find more information under 2 a week labels.
